Understanding Personality Through Colours

Colour pencils are pretty. 🎨 [πŸ–Όβ—]
I love looking at colours, especially vibrantly coloured pictures! As a child, I loved looking at colour pencils and often asked to buy a set, although I never used them much; while I can draw, I don’t have the eye to pick the right colours for colouring. πŸ˜†

To my surprise, earlier this year I found out that one can tell a person’s personality through their choice of favourite colour! I found that really interesting, so I looked it up and found a particular website called Empowered by Color that I’ll be heavily quoting from in this post. πŸ˜€

According to that site, a favourite colour can tell the following:

It is this instinctual choice of a color that tells you a lot about yourself, how you function and how others see you.
It is the means to understanding your behavior and your character traits as well as your physical, mental, emotional and spiritual states.
It reflects the way you operate in the world, your strengths and weaknesses, your vulnerabilities, your deepest needs and your challenges at that time in your life.

Of course, as with everything you read, do take it with a grain of salt. If it resonates with you like it did with me, great! Otherwise, no worries. πŸ™‚

My Favourite Colour: Blue

Previously I took an online test that said my spirit animal is a turtle! Kind of make sense, considering my favourite colour.Β πŸ˜† Picture from SpiritAnimal.info

From my childhood until now, I’ve never wavered from having blue as my favourite colour! I don’t often wear this colour (strangely I have more red shirts than I do blue ones) and I don’t even decorate my house with it (I have a peaceful green wall πŸ˜€), I always go back to this colour as my favourite. πŸ˜†

The kind of blue that I love is the one in the picture above, like the colour of the deep sea with sunlight shining through it; a blue that isn’t too dark or too light. πŸ’™

According to the Empowered by Color site:

Lovers of blue have a deep need to find inner peace and truth, to live their life according to their ideals and beliefs without having to change their inflexible viewpoint of life to satisfy others.
~From Empowered by Color: Your Personality Color

That is just the summary, and already I feel it describes me so well! And the few opening paragraphs do that even more:

If this is your favorite color you are conservative, reliable and trustworthy – you are quite trusting of others although you are very wary in the beginning until you are sure of the other person. At the same time, you also have a deep need to be trusted.

You are not impulsive or spontaneous – you always think before you speak and act and do everything at your own pace in your own time. You take time to process and share your feelings.

You are genuine and sincere, and you take your responsibilities seriously.

Having a personality color blue means you have a deep need for peace and harmony in your everyday life – you don’t like having your feathers ruffled. You would benefit from daily meditation and quiet time for reflection, introspection and self-discovery.

I won’t go so far as to quote the entire page, however tempted I am! It describes me so well; I’d say 90% – 95% of it is me. πŸ˜€

Other Personality Colours

Curious about other colours and personalities? Want to see which one you are? I’ve quoted a summary of each colour from the same site below, and each one of them has a link to more details about each colour so do have a look! Even if the summary doesn’t quite sound like you, I still recommend going to the linked site for details on a specific colour before coming to a conclusion. πŸ˜€

A Short Self-Compassionate Letter

Dear Self,

It’s wonderful that you learned more about yourself through colours. 🎨

  1. We talked about colors once before! This is a great breakdown of them. My favorite is red as I had mentioned before, but I also like orange and yellow next. I like orange and yellow about the same. I can see Jane liking red and yellow!

    1. Yep, it took me this long to write about it; I had it as a draft for ages. πŸ˜›

I think our second and third and so on favourite colours also come into play, just in a smaller scale than our first favourite colour. I like green after blue, but I like pastel colours too. I think I just like gentle colours in general. πŸ˜€

      1. I’m glad you found it interesting! ❀️
And yes, almost forever! I usually start a draft whenever I get a new idea, and my problem now is I have way too many drafts (80+) and I can’t seem to whittle it down. πŸ˜†

    1. Yellow – not completely but most are on point.
For example: Within the meaning of colors, yellow is the great communicator and loves to talk.

Yellow is the color of the networker and the journalist, all working and communicating on a mental level.

Yellow is the scientist, constantly analyzing, looking at both sides before making a decision; methodical and decisive.

Yellow is the entertainer, the comic, the clown.

      1. I think it’s pretty interesting; you’re a blend of red and yellow, but it doesn’t make you an orange. 🍊

I did that once before; asking the favourite colour question in a blogger award nomination. πŸ˜†

      1. Interesting! If the owl symbolises change and it’s your spirit animal, does it mean you’re here to let me know there’s change coming for me? πŸ˜›

While it’s creepy accurate, I find it’s fun! I like doing random personality tests and such; even if it’s hogwash, at least I learn more about myself. πŸ˜€

Also, according to that Empowered by Color site, if you’re split between 2 favourite colours, the details of both personalities blend too. Green is my second favourite colour and I find quite a bit of it applies to me too.
